At Cross Timbers, we don't subscribe to any 'one' training system
or program. Each horse and rider are unique, and must be treated
as such. Our goal is to help students reach their goals, and to help
them learn to become a thinking rider, able to find solutions for
themselves.

Our fully-customized training program is based on the needs of
the individual horse. A detailed program will be established within
the first week of training. Assessments are made periodically to
determine the progress and success of each horse's training.
Duration and frequency may differ based on the needs of each
horse.  Training methods may include lungeing, work-in-hand,
long-reining, etc.

Classical training preserves the horse's soundness and
happiness, while developing the horse systematically according to
time-honored and tested principles based on bio-mechanics and
psychology of the horse. We do not discriminate horses based on
breed or sex, provided their movement and gaits are suitable, and
their temperament is willing.

Several criteria are important to consider:

1) Suitability for the job.
2) A willing temperament is paramount.
3)  Previous training is not a pre-requisite. In fact, if the previous
training is incorrect and the horse is badly in need of corrective
training, it may be a disqualifier for acceptance into our program.
On the other hand, correct previous training will work in the
horse's favor, and will increase likelihood of success in our
program.

All new horses are accepted on a "trial basis" during which time
we will determine whether or not the horse will work out in our
program. This saves us both, time and money. Not all horses work
well with all people, and it is important to us that the horses in our
care are happy, therefore we reserve the right to send horses
home after this trial period, for any reason.  We also reserve the
right to refuse horses which we feel will be unsuitable or unsafe in
our training program.
